Singapore, 10 January 2019 – YTL PowerSeraya today announced that Mr. Chan Swee Huat has decided to step down as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Group with effect from 15 January 2019. Mr. Chan plans to retire but will continue to serve as an advisor to parent company YTL Power International. He will be succeeded by industry veteran Mr. John Ng, who was most recently the CEO of Singapore LNG Corporation Pte Ltd (SLNG). Not new to YTL PowerSeraya, Mr. Ng had served as the company’s CEO (2009 to 2013) and prior to the appointment, held numerous leadership positions within the company.
Mr. Chan took over the helm as CEO of YTL PowerSeraya from Mr. Ng in October 2013, a role which he has held for five years. He first joined the company in July 2001 and had also served as Senior Vice-President of PetroSeraya – the Group’s physical oil trading and fuel oil tank leasing arm – for six years.
YTL PowerSeraya’s Chairman, Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr) Francis Yeoh Sock Ping said, “On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Swee Huat for his innumerable contributions to the Group. Swee Huat is a proven leader who has delivered stable growth in his tenure, and we credit this to his relentless dedication to our people and customers.”
He added, “At the same time, we are pleased to welcome John back to the Group. John has a deep understanding and experience of our business and the industry. With his track record of outstanding achievements, we are confident that John is well-suited to lead YTL PowerSeraya in this increasingly competitive landscape to drive innovation and further strengthen our position as an integrated energy player in Singapore.”
Mr. Chan shared, “I congratulate John on his appointment. Having worked with him for many years in the earlier days of YTL PowerSeraya, I am very confident that under his leadership, John will continue to lead YTL PowerSeraya to build a sustainable energy future for Singapore and I wish him the best for his role.”
On his re-appointment as CEO, Mr. Ng said, “I would like to thank Swee Huat for his remarkable leadership, dedication and commitment in growing the business of YTL PowerSeraya over the last five years. This is indeed an exciting time in our fast-paced, ever-evolving industry and I am really glad and excited to be able to contribute and play a part in YTL PowerSeraya’s growth journey once again, a company that I care deeply about.”
Mr. Ng brings with him more than 35 years of commercial and operational experience in the Singapore energy sector. Under his guidance as CEO of YTL PowerSeraya, he had steered the growth of the company to maintain its strong success, before taking on a similar role at SLNG in year 2013. Mr. Ng is currently also the Chairman of the Workplace Safety and Health Council, as well as Vice-President of the Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF) Board. He also serves as a Board member of the Energy Studies Institute, and a member of the Public Utilities Board Risk Committee.
