Geneco Reinforces the Group’s Sustainability Efforts with Appointment of New CEO
Consumers to benefit from the electricity retailer’s suite of comprehensive sustainable energy solutions
Geneco, one of Singapore’s leading electricity retailers has appointed Mr. Lim Han Kwang as Chief Executive Officer of Geneco and Group Head (Retail, Regulation and Renewables) of YTL PowerSeraya, effective 1 March 2021. His appointment reinforces the YTL PowerSeraya Group’s focus on its sustainability efforts and comes on the back of its electricity retail brand Geneco’s inaugural tree planting ceremony on Earth Day today, alongside a reveal of its suite of Sustainable Energy Solutions.
Mr. Lim has more than 18 years of commercial and regulatory experience in the Singapore electricity and gas market in Singapore. Prior to his current appointment, he was YTL PowerSeraya’s Group Head of Strategy and Risk. He takes over the helm from Mr. Low Boon Tong, who has taken on the new role of Chief Operating Officer (Commercial) at YTL PowerSeraya to focus on optimising the Group’s value chain across its business portfolios.
Mr. Lim’s leadership as CEO of Geneco and Group Head for Retail, Regulation and Renewables in YTL PowerSeraya, will strengthen business objectives with customer centricity and sustainability at its core.
John Ng, CEO, YTL PowerSeraya said, “Han Kwang has been a respected voice at the forefront of the energy transition development for a number of years. With his leadership track record and depth of business experience, Han Kwang is well-placed to continue our strong momentum of positive growth at Geneco. He will seek to accelerate the Group’s green ambition by driving a steady energy transition towards more sustainable energy solutions, while keeping a pulse on consumer behaviour and consumption patterns.”
Lim Han Kwang, CEO of Geneco and Group Head (Retail, Regulation and Renewables) of YTL PowerSeraya said, “Geneco is at the intersection of sustainable energy solutions and market leadership. It is a brand trusted to deliver business, environmental and social benefits. These attributes give Geneco a competitive advantage, and I am confident that when we align YTL PowerSeraya’s and Geneco’s capabilities behind a singular vision to deliver integrated and comprehensive solutions to our customers, we will be able to propel the Group to the next phase of growth.”
Consumers to benefit from increased choice with Geneco’s comprehensive sustainable energy solutions
Geneco is advancing its portfolio via its new comprehensive suite of sustainable energy solutions, with its customised energy options. Revealing these plans to coincide with Earth Day today commemorates not only the retailer’s 3rd year anniversary, but also its aim and confidence in moving towards a sustainable energy future, while growing in tandem with the industry’s changing needs.
Geneco is also pushing forward its green energy efforts by partnering organisations with similar sustainability ethos such as Standard Chartered Bank to bring to Geneco customers its bundled green energy solutions.
At the same time, Geneco is well-placed to meet consumers’ increasing appetite for solar energy. According to Mr Lim, solar deployment and installation in industrial, commercial buildings and landed residential consumers’ homes will see an increase in uptake and hence greater focus over the next five years in Singapore. This comes as the cost of producing green power from solar panels compares well with the purchase of power from the electricity grid.
Commitment to align with the Singapore Green Plan 2030
As a step further in its sustainability efforts, Geneco has committed to plant 250 trees in the next five years, starting with its inaugural tree planting on Earth Day today. This aligns with one of the key targets under the Singapore Green Plan 2030 to plant an additional one million trees.
“These steps will springboard our efforts to look at sustainability holistically, not just on our business operations, but also from a customer and social perspective. As we celebrate our 3rd anniversary this year, we will continue to power the change to advance our environmental, social and governance momentum. We hope our range of retail solutions and plans will also help further encourage and ease Singaporeans into adopting green energy plans at their own pace, so we can work together towards the Singapore Green Plan 2030 vision,” said Mr. Lim.
