YTL Communications, May 20, 2024
Clarion Malaysia, a global automotive supplier specialising in in-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) equipment, today showcased its successful trial of Malaysia’s first 5G-enabled advanced manufacturing line, powered by YTL Communications’ Yes 5G Private Network and Cnergenz’s smart manufacturing solutions.
Present at the event were YB Tuan Gobind Singh, Minister of Digital, Malaysia, along with Tuan Ma Sivanesan, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Digital and Datuk Ahmad Zaki Zahid, Chief Strategy Officer of Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), who visited Clarion Malaysia’s private 5G-enabled smart manufacturing plant. Clarion Malaysia is first-in-Malaysia in using private 5G and IR4.0 technologies in advance manufacturing.
YB Tuan Gobind Singh, Minister of Digital, Malaysia, remarked, “I would like to congratulate Clarion Malaysia in launching First-in-Malaysia AI and Robotics based Advanced Manufacturing powered by 5G Private Network from YTL Communications. This collaboration with automation technologies from Cnergenz and Dassault Systèmes is a significant step in advancing Malaysia’s IR4.0 ambitions. 5G is not just for consumers, it will play a significant role in driving productivity and competitiveness for Malaysia. Having world class public and private 5G networks will help drive significant economic uplift to the country and position Malaysia as an attractive hub for FDI.”
Mr Tan Teong Khin, Managing Director of Clarion Malaysia said, “The deployment of our AI-enabled smart factory is made possible by our partnership with Yes and Cnergenz, where their technical expertise and solution capabilities are pivotal in the implementation of this game-changing innovation. By embracing the Yes 5G Private Network and AI-based innovation, Clarion Malaysia is now able to digitally transform our manufacturing approach and reduce our processing time by 70%, with enhanced materials management, improved efficiency and higher quality—leading to lower operational costs and better production quality.”
Clarion Malaysia’s smart facility deploys Yes’ high-capacity, ultra-low latency Private 5G connectivity to support mission-critical operations and security requirements; while Cnergenz provides the smart manufacturing solution—such as cloud-based inventory systems and AI-powered Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs)—for Clarion Malaysia’s production line. Collectively, these Yes 5G Private Network solutions provide seamless integration and real-time communication between employees and machinery orchestrated by next-generation ERP and PLM from Dassault Systèmes, leading to significant enhancements in production efficiency and quality.
“As the champion for 5G in Malaysia, we were the first to bring 5G to consumers and today, we are proud to be the first to bring private 5G network to advanced manufacturing. In this new era, manufacturing is not just about cost management but also about actionable intelligence and adaptability, Yes 5G Private Network provides the critical high-capacity, ultra-low latency communications fabric to enable next-generation smart manufacturing, integrating AI and robotics into the factory floor.” said Mr Wing K. Lee, CEO of YTL Communications. “The Yes 5G Private Network, based on the latest 5G SA (Standalone) Network standard, is designed to meet the mission-critical requirements for enterprise customers with world class end-to-end security and resiliency. This has provided Clarion Malaysia unparallel flexibility to enable instrumentation and automation anywhere inside the factory in a secured manner.”
The Yes 5G Private Network, developed in conjunction with Intel and QCT, adheres to the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) global standards for 5G SA (Standalone) and the Network Security Assurance Scheme (NESAS) for the highest level of 5G security. On top of providing high-speed connectivity, the Yes 5G Private Network deploys Intel Xeon Scalable processors to offer robust security as the traffic is entirely self-contained in this onsite private 5G network, from device to radio to 5G SA core, providing the lowest latency and the highest level of protection and resilience—which makes Yes 5G Private Network highly suitable for mission-critical deployments.
Datuk Ahmad Zaki bin Zahid, Chief Strategy Officer of Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) commented, “We are pleased to be part of this cutting-edge trial, as we continue to expand on our world-class, future-ready 5G network. It is another important milestone in DNB’s drive to transform Malaysia into a digital economy, through the application of 5G technology, digitalisation, automation, and artificial intelligence in various industry verticals. Entities within the oil & gas, manufacturing and logistics sectors are now leveraging private 5G networks to automate their processes, thereby increasing operating efficiency, safety and overall quality. We hope to see more businesses explore the opportunities made possible by 5G.”
“It is a privilege to collaborate with Clarion Malaysia and Yes on this pioneering initiative, not just for Clarion Malaysia but also the northern region of Malaysia,” said Mr Lye Yhin Choy, CEO of Cnergenz Bhd. “As more manufacturers embark on digital transformation of their entire manufacturing environment, our intelligent manufacturing solutions provide cost-effective options for manufacturers entering the IR4.0 era.”
Cnergenz provides Clarion Malaysia’s smart facility with 5G-enabled manufacturing solutions, including intelligent scanners, smart racks, X-ray automated counter and Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) to automate and minimise human errors, from incoming materials management to the assembly and delivery of end-products from factory floor to warehouse.
Mr Samson Khaou, Executive Vice President, Asia Pacific of Dassault Systèmes who is the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) enabler of this trial, said, “Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform and DELMIAWorks Manufacturing ERP empower leading manufacturers like Clarion Malaysia to achieve greater competitiveness. By integrating their bill of materials (BOM) and engineering bill of materials (EBOM) onto a single platform, we streamline collaboration and provide real-time operational visibility. This accelerates Clarion Malaysia’s New Product Introduction process, improves supplier interactions, and secures their intellectual property. As a result, they can launch products more efficiently and deliver faster to solidify their position as a key global supplier.”
“QCT’s enterprise 5G solution integrates Intel Xeon processors and FlexRAN software to ensure the Yes 5G Private Network provides a high-availability 5G Core design to address network reliability demands with a flexible system configuration for RAN to fulfill diverse coverage and capacity requirements.” said Caroline Chan, VP Network and Edge Solutions Group of Intel.
